Best of it's type
The Bishop/Tardel "How to Build a Traditional Hot Rod" is the very best book of this genre that I have seen. It's chock full of good clear photos and captions that explain exactly what's going on.As well as accurate measurements. Something not found in most other books. It's apparent that Bishop and Tardel put a lot of extra effort into this book and you'll find it to be quite detailed.Even if you're building a modern style roadster or coupe, there's a lot of valuable information in this book that can apply. And at the least make you appreciate hot rod history in a manner not seen to date.Bishop and Tardel are a couple of guys who have been there and done that and if this book doesn't make you want to start building a traditional hot rod I'd be surprised.

Should be called "As Good As It Gets."
I bought this book, then I bought a Model A. This is the only modern book I've read that can gives the reader a strait forward guide to building an real hot rod circa 1950. The correct wheel choices, banjo rear ends, Naugahyde! No Chevy 350s or billet here! Bishop & Tartel show you how the old timers did it, and then how to do it right.I use it as a reference book and take everywhere. It's the basis for my A-V8, I couldn't build as good a period car without it. The pictures are captivating, the diagrams are totally right on. If I didn't feel as strongly about this book I wouldn't be writing this review.

Build a Traditional Ford Hot Rod
Overall, I like the book but I have two complaints:1) The book glosses over some of the most technical items. Information on adapting steering and rear suspension are minimal. More pictures and diagrams for these would have helped.2) The editing or print job is terrible, at least in my copy. Pictures are missing or misplaced, irrelevant to the chapter, or have been chopped in half. I wish I had a few pictures referenced but not found.

Ford Model A Rat Rod

There’s not much comfort inside the rat rod, with fiberglass bucket seats being used for seating. However, it’s time we look into what the rat rod, as it is fondly called, has to offer in terms of performance and comfort. For the exterior, a Ford Pop Grill has been used along with a single front light and 60’s Ford tail lights. Joel, who earlier owned a Mazda 323 hatch, decided to fuse its elements into the body of a 1926 Ford Model T for the Beach Hop, which was only a month away. With the assistance of his father, Joel Honey created the 1926 Ford Model T-RatPack-178 mainly for the purpose of exhibiting it at the Beach Hop, a famous Nostalgia cum Rock n Roll festival in Whangamata, New Zealand. Joel then used Auto Barrel 15×8-inch -25 Winds wheels for the front and Auto Barrel 15×8-inch -5 Winds for the rear. One of the most popular cars from the Ford Model T range, the 1926 version, has now been given a modern-day overhaul to turn it into an aggressive looking (and decent-performing) hotrod. The 1926 Ford Model T-RatPack-178 may not be the most practical vehicle to drive, considering it’s a tad uncomfortable and noisy, but the idea of sacrificing his 323 hatch for a little bit of fun and deserves a lot of praise.

It was a reader that first tipped NZPC off about Joel Honey and his ridiculously awesome 1927 Ford Model T. We were sent a grainy, pixelated video of what looked to be a pretty rugged rat rod. We have to agree with that, the Winds wheels really give the rod a different look, setting it apart from other rats out there, and hinting towards something different between the front struts. So, after a solid month spent in the workshop building the rat rod, did Joel manage to finish the car in time. “Ok, it’s a rat rod. “I’ve always had the idea of building a Japanese-powered rod of some kind, and always wanted to run old-school Jap wheels on it to tie it all in, too. From there I mated them together to suit the original ‘27 Ford Model T cowl and doors, and the length of the driveshaft. ” As Beach Hop week rolled around, Joel and his mates were still frantically trying to piece together the car with whatever they could find, including those very cool Winds Auto Barrel rims. But then, as the video began to play, the unmistakeable “brap brap brap” of a bridgeported rotor could be heard, not long before the rusty machine began to scream as the revs were brought up and the clutch dumped.

We have to agree with that, the Winds wheels really give the rod a different look, setting it apart from other rats out there, and hinting towards something different between the front struts.
